There are 40 senators in the California State Legislature.
The Legislature is like the Federal Congress, only it is composed of a senate and an assembly.
And, of course, there are two people representing the State Government in the Federal Congress, just like everybody else.

It is in the House of Representatives that state representation varies by a state's population; in the Senate all are represented equally.
