Males produce a thousand times the number of sex cells than females. All of a females eggs develop with she is still in her mother uterus. Males continually produce sperm from the time of puberty through the rest of their lives. The egg cell is much larger than a sperm cell.

Humans have 24 pairs of chromosomes, a total of 48. The sperm and the egg cells both carry 24 individual chromosomes.
