If you are on a platform and can see how far away the floor is... can you stop the damage by jumping at the last second?

Not really. They did it on Mythbusters. If you jump up at 5mph and you're falling at 55 mph, it's only a difference of 10%. You're still going to die.

No. Mythbusters disproved this "falling elevator" myth a couple seasons ago. (episode 17: Elevator of Death). They concluded that you can not jump up with enough speed to offset the downward speed of the platform.

If you're falling any appreciable distance, the best thing to do is lay flat on your back on the floor of the platform. This will reduce the forces on any part of your body.

You can only accelerate upwards maybe 5 miles an hour. If you are falling at 30 miles an hour, it might help a little by making the impact 25 mph.

If you jump so that you spread yourself as flat as possible while protecting your head, the inevitable whack will be distributed across a greater area of your body, thereby reducing your risk of injury.

or if you were chuck norris you could roundhouse kick the ground in the face and it would come to you
