I don't see anything wrong with listening to other people. Almost by definition, other people are not you. They don't think like you and react to things in the same way as you. They know things that you don't. So you can get a lot of perspective.
As far as trusting them... well, people also have misconceptions, stupid prejudices, and yes, even mental illnesses. So it's probably not a great idea to just cut and paste what someone says on here directly into your life.
Still, I believe you can have one without the other. You can consider what people tell you and decide for yourself whether it's going to work or not. Or even use it as a starting point to find out more yourself.
But this is true of any source of information, be it Yahoo!Answers, your best friend, a book, or the local newspaper. Information is good. Just be careful what you do with it.

Well, YOU are also on here asking question , aren't you?
When people ask for advice and opinion, they need to exercise common sense and know that what they got it only that - opinion.
But there are useful answers here as well. Some questions have answers that are not easily found even on the internet. Places like Yahoo!Answers are perfect for that.
Kids who do not have much resources can ask for help with their homework - isn't that a good thing ? (not that people should give all the answers and do the homeworkl for them, but at least they can get some help where to look for info or help working it out)
For example, I don't think asking opinion about a movie is going to hurt anyone and at least, for some people, it give them a gauge to see whether they want to go and see it or not.

I think it is interesting to find out what and how people think which is why I like it. I think sometimes it's nice to get another point of view but I would not place my life with anything I got from here. I really think it better for surveys/polls like you are using it by asking this question. I do like to ask music/movie questions because I might get a response that introduces me to a new band/movie, and that is always cool. The other big thing I have seen on here is people looking for support and sometimes if that is all you need you can ignore the answers you don't like and absorb the ones you do.

I think your right in some respect. But you can generally tell if somone is giving you a reall answer opposed to a silly childish answer. I always try and give an answer that fits the Q properly. If somone asks a stupid silly Q then they are gonna get a stupid and silly answer. I think this is just for those who want somones opinion on certain Q's and then they can makeup their own mind on what to do.

I think that the square root of this answer can be found in the hypotenuse of its adverb.
To answer your question, I think its only a matter of time until lawsuits spring up against yahoo answers, because someone told some loser to rub cream cheese on his face to get rid of acne, or something like that. So in conclusion, probably not a good idea to trust everything you read...

No, I personally think it's great. As long as the people who are asking questions about health and relationships and stuff have enough common sense to not take every single answer seriously and to make their own conclusions.

And you could just as easily find those same crazy people to get advice from on the street, this place just concentrates them, but I have heard some pearls of wisdom on here...

Absolutely not, You can have hours of fun baiting animal lovers in the pet section, ask them questions like will my puppy survive in the wild and watch the fireworks go off all over the world. Its great.
