My fishtank water turned PURPLE!!! Help me please?

Well, if you have read any of my other questions.. u will find that i have a serious problem with my fishtank lol. But my next question is.. Why did the water turn pinkish purplish?? When i did my water changed it looked like pink or red Kool-aid in the bucket! Is it some kind of algae?

Ive never ever had an algae problem before... I did put a medication in the water and it causes a foam of some sort on the top of the water... But the water is not supposed to change color from the chemical if anything just a tint of yellow... The foam was so bad though it covered the lights on the tank.

The only reasonable solution is the General Cure you have been using or something else got in the bucket. A list of the first few ingredients in this medication would certainly help. Some medications can start out one color but change when you dilute them or add other chemicals (like dechlorinator). This is the most likely situation, I would suggest changing even more water to lessen the color and the amount of medication in the tank.

The best thing to do is get whatever fish you have put them in a bucket filled with water temporarily till you replace all the water in your tank. This happened to my cousin a short while ago, im not sure how he fixed it and what problem is but i will get back to you after i call him.
This is a outbreak of purple/reddish algae. Try going to your fish store and buying algae fix. Cover your tank from sunlight and put in the medicine, remember algae grows from sunlight. Also what type of light do you use. there are cases where green algae will turn to red algae when exposed to blue lighting.

redo the water.from now on, clean your tank& stuff until you dont see anything but water.
