Yes, you can bring any witness. Payment is for their time and expertise, not to have them take your side. A ture expert witness has probably done this before and has a set rate. If this is a friend who is an expert in a field, you should pay them a fair amount for their time. I'd expect your budget is small since you are in small claims.

In my state, yes and you pay them whatever you and the expert agreed upon. There's no Court issue about the amount of payment. BTW-expert witnesses are paid. The court already knows that.

You can bring them if they meet the Court's definition of expert witness.

You definitely can bring a witness. It would be stupid to pay them more than you intend to be awarded. If you expect to win a settlement of $1,000 and this expert charges you $950 it is a waste of your time.
