We are selling our home, and vacated over 2 weeks ago. Our realtor said that there's still no open house scheduled. Can we do one ourselves? Or is it too big of a realty faux-pas? Help Me! I'm not too keen on paying 2 mortgages!

Open houses usually don't do much to stimulate the sale, they are a handy way for agents to meet prospective buyers who can become their future clients. If someone really wanted to see the house, their agent would access it with the lockbox after looking over it on the MLS. TELL your agent to perform an open house. EARN their commission. Because even if you find the buyer, your agent would still be due a commission (the norm. contract set up).
In the meantime, after you've moved out, make sure the house is totally clean. Make it look as new and unlived in as possible. All the lights are working, windows/blinds open to allow sunlight in. Tell your agent to draw up flyers of the house with pictures and stats to put in the info box outside the property.

I did my own open house and sold the house by myself- my realtor just did the paperwork and collected the commissions. Tell her you will be having one with or without her- do your own advertising on Craigslist and infotube.net.
If she is not working for you- I will.

Sure, you can do that. BUT your agent will STILL get his or her commission in most cases. Read your listing agreement, it will tell you if your agent has an exclusive right of sale or if you can bring in your own buyer without paying a commission.

You can, but isn't that why YOU hired them? I would tell them to do one next weekend or they are fired. If your agent is not performing to your standards you can fire them. No agents like open houses, and they really do nothing but make the customer happy, but if that's what you want they should do it.
