Are you one of the ones who are too large to find clothes in stores? Are you needing to learn to make your farming clothes?
I have been sewing for myself and for others for over 30 years. I learned when I was 10. I made and still make most of my daughters clothes because the styles these days are not very age appropriate. I have 3 girls, 24, 21,and yes a 3yr old. I also find some of the styles inappropriate for myself, and no, I am not obese, (I am an aerobics instructor!) I just like my clothes to cover my body, not let everything hang out!
Sewing is fun, and takes talent, so KUDOS to those of you who sew or are trying to learn!

No it isn't only obese ladies that sew their own clothing. I sew most of my own clothing. I am 5' 7" ane wear a size 12 or 14. The reason I sew my own clothing is because I have a difficult time finding what I want in stores and it is cost effective to sew my own clothing. I also sew for family members and friends. I especially enjoy making formal wear.

I don't know any obese ladies that make their own clothes, but even wal-mart sells PLUS sized clothes so that's not really an issue for larger ladies. Most rural people still have cars and are able to get off the farm to buy clothing.
There are lots of people that want to make their own clothes. Fabric stores are alive and well all over the world. I have had a seamstress custom make surgical scrubs and lab coats for me. I'm neither obese nor am I a farmer.
If I had more free time I would love to sew more!!

Other than jeans, running clothes and bathing suits, I make all of my own clothing. And guess what - I'm not obese and I don't live on a farm (well, I have 9 acres and a peach tree, but that's not techincally a farm haha)! Shocking, I know...
Clothing in stores is overpriced and ill-fitting. I'd rather go to stores and get ideas then create them myself in the perfect shape, color and size. My clothes never look like everyone else's and I get people asking me all the time where I shop and how I find these clothes that fit so well. For me, it's a much more economical, fit-friendly option.

I design and knit or crochet some of my clothes just for fun. I don't live on a farm and I am not obese. I also sew too. There is a website called knitty look there and see for yourself, even people in the citys do it.

Amish people make their own clothes.
I live on a farm and don't sew my own clothes. I use my machine for mending and crafts.
Some 4-H kids sew their own. Also people who can't find what they're looking for in a store.

Yes, actually I know a few right around me... Even myself, I end up altering most the clothes I buy. I know heavy people and farm people who make clothes.
As a child I made my own Barbi doll clothes and accessories. Why spend when you can find scrap material around for little to nothing $$.

thousands of people still do it, mainly because you get the style you like and the fabric you like, if people didnt sew there wouldnt be fabric shops, hundreds of kinds of sewing machines and pattern companies thriving, you really are a nasty little brat arent you?
