I never read Cooper's books but now I feel like I need to. I can't wait till this movie comes out, it looks more than awesome.

'The Pathfinder' based on the book by James Fenimore Cooper was a made-for-tv movie that already came out in 1996.
The upcoming movie 'Pathfinder: An Untold Legend' was scripted by Laeta Kalogridis, based on his own Graphic Novel 'Pathfinder: Legend Of The Ghost Warrior', which was based on the 1987 Screenplay 'Veiviseren' by Nils Gaup.

Understandable how the 2 could get mixed up like that! :-)

I have read all 5 of the leatherstocking tails, by Cooper.

I was deeply disappointed by "the Last of the Mohicans", starring Daniel Day Lewis about 10? years ago. The film didn't follow the book. Natty Bumpo (pathfinder) got the girl, and the other girl died. Totally NOT Cooper's book.

In Hollywood, the good guy gets the girl. But in ALL of Cooper's tales of Pathfinder (Hawkeye, Natty Bumpo), the hero is a man of the forest and will never be happy in the arms of a girl... he avoids relationships. He returns to the wild land every time. Going further and further west.

Try to read LAST OF THE MOHICANS first. It is the most exciting, and it is a love story between the young Incus ? (the last of the mohicans) and the white girl he can never have.

Then read the other 4 novels in the order of the time period. NOT the order they were written in. I think the last one to read would be "THE PRARIE" where Chincachcook is old, and drinks a lot, and dies an unhappy Indian in a white man's world.

GOOD FOR YOU.... a person that reads!!!

No. The movie with Daniel Day Lewis is nothing like the book and focuses on a minor character.
