The main thing is that it made cotton profitable. Before Eli Whitney (although he may not have actually invented it) cotton took way too long to make usable. One had to pull out the seeds which were deeply embedded and also sticky. It would take a slave all day to clean out five pounds of cotton. With the simple process of the gin a slave could de-seed fifty or a hundred or even two hundred pounds of cotton! Once this came along, slavery became truly massively profitable in the South and something slave owners and plantation owners did not want to live without, or at least, they didn't want to live without the money.

For some weird reason, it made people think slavery was more neccessary. Some people think it may have been one of the causes of the Civil War. Eli Whitney did make the south a land of cotton, making it more popular and in more demand in britan. So slavery was considered neccessary. I guess if you need inventions you could say the iron clad. That came up during the civil war, and if the cotton gin was one of the causes of the civil war, then the iron clad was invented because of it.

the cotton gin was invented to speed up the cotton production line for the northerners. it was invented by Eli Whitney the inventor of the interchangeable parts. because of the cotton gin slaves could clean up to 60 pounds of cotton a day compared to 10 pounds of cotton cleaned with their hands. so it was the first answer that you have up there.
