I bought my guinea pig Kaytee Soft Sorbent bedding. He keeps kicking the bedding into his food. I have started to give less food into his food bowl, and fill it up more times in one day, just so he can get food without bedding inside. However, even after a few minutes, he somehow keeps getting the bedding into his food bowl+alfalfa hay lil container. is there any way to prevent this? is okay for him to eat food that has bedding in it???

Don't worry, he won't eat the bedding. They know the difference.

If you want to prevent it (and save bedding costs in the long run), buy a sheet of fleece and put it through the washer/dryer cycle 3-4 times. Then, take out your bedding, put a couple towels on the floor, and place the fleece on top of it. Place something in the corners of your cage to keep it nice and tight. The washing & drying destroy an electrostatic barrier common on new fleece, letting liquids pass right through to be absorbed by the towels. Everyweek, you can brush off any droppings and hay on the fleece and toss the fleece & towels in the washer and dryer. Quick to clean, locks in odors, comfortable on their feet, and no way of kicking up any bedding into their food.

He will not eat the bedding,,, he will eat around it! They are very good at diggingin their food... So He is perfectly normal! Dont worry they are not picky eaters or neat! If he doesnt mind you shouldnt mind either! - You will know if the guinea pig minds!

Hi! I really think it would be best if you had someone to care for them / check on them throughout the day. Have you got any neighbours / family / friends that can check on them in the morning and evening? Just to make sure that they have enough food, water and bedding / hay. Hope this helps.

Your guinea pig does it to hide his food. He will dig into it and get some when he is hungry, but they don't like their food to be exposed.
