I would do it in a heartbeat! The stipulations would be to "go without human contact" as being the only qualifier. I would want a pet and access to nature and sunshine/outdoors. As for being provided everything I desire-I would choose the food, the books, have lots of writing and art materials. And a very comfortable bed. My primary focus is that once I was done having this five year sabbatical from the outside world, (which sounds delicious right now, but I am sure would grow disheartening as five years is a LONG time), is that I would have the freedom to then travel extensively and put the money to good cause and be of service in ways that
only money can provide in this warped world we live in. And I'd spend the five years writing a book and chilling. Like I said, the initial year would be a peaceful one. Oh, but if there is no human contact who is going to clean my teeth or what if I get sick and need a doctor? Could this be a segment out of the twilight zone...

I'm with those that could go with out human contact for 5 years and would do it for no pay, since the other conditions provide an otherwise perfect opportunity for a unique experience.
I wouldn't want the television, frankly, I'd prefer good reading material and something to write with. A television would be an irritating companion.

Yes, but... The opportunity to have 5 years of solitude with a television is scary. Can I have unlimited access to a library, instead? 5 years of the telly would drive anyone insane. As for the lack of human contact, while this might be a bit bothersome at times, the quiet and peace would be worth it.

Yes. We go through our day-to-day lives without human contact on an intimate level, but experience it on the television level all the time. The way we interact on the internet, the way we watch television, the way we go to work/school and do what we have to go do and leave, only to come home and watch television. Most people do go without human contact for five years, probably not five years, but close to it.

I'd do it without the money. Free food, cable, books, etc. And no schedule to keep. That's basically 5 years of retirement... One could meditate indefinitely... spend DAYS contemplating the greatest mysteries of life.... it would be fantastic.
...and best of all, you'd probably be doing the world a lot of good living without distractions and obligations. The world is changed not by what we do, but by what we have become...and what an opportunity to become!

I wouldn't do it.
I wouldn't want to take five years out of my life and not have my wife.
My mother is 84 and still walks 2 miles a day. But, there certainly is no guarantee that she would be around when I got back. Not only that, who is to say I would last the whole five? Any sort of disease could hit. Or I could get out and die two days later. To what end? Those could happen now, so I would rather have those I love around me.
Life, I believe, is meant to be shared with loved ones. Taking five years out of the middle of it would be insane for me. And not only is life to be shared, but lived to the fullest.

Hmmm. Not having to work for 5 years and getting paid 5 million dollars....
No, I prefer working my digits off for an unappreciative, egocentric boss who expects me to come into his office each morning and compliment him on his fine management abilities. And in return for giving my soul to the company, I get backstabbed by my collegues competing for my position. This I do just to collect a pension after 30 years.
Are you kidding? Please, I beg you, where can I find such a job? Work is not like school kid. It is a jungle.

No. I'm sure I could survive for 5 years without human contact if I had to, but I would not CHOOSE to do it for money.
Also, in your scenario I would be indoors for 5 years. Again, I could survive 5 years locked up, but I would not CHOOSE to do it for money.

No, because without human contact, I'd go crazy, and I'd be so crazy that by the time I got the money, I wouldn't know what to do with it, so no.

Yes, but I would need a computer. It wouldn't have to be connected to the internet. I'm a software developer and I have very little human contact. I just need my computer.
