ibook Ethernet drops connection every few minutes. Unplug/replug cable, works for a few minutes. Repeat. Idea?

My ibook is connected to a Motorola cable modem via Ethernet. I can connect to the web for a few minutes, then nothing. I unplug the Ethernet cable from my ibook and replug it. I can connect again for a few minutes, then nothing. Repeat unplug/plug. Annoyed. ISP doesn't know. The modem seems to work fine through the whole process. Looks like it is an ibook and Ethernet problem. The problem surfaced after about 4 days of perfect functioning. Unbelievable.

try running a loopback test on the ibook Ethernet port for like 5 minutes and see if there is any packet loss
