Are there 36 possible outcomes or 21?
Is rolling a 1 and a 3 considered the same outcome as rolling a 3 on the first die and a 1 on the second?

Ok. So far, you can get 1-3, 3-1--but, is 2-2 and 2-2 two distinct possibilities? Is it 3/36 or 4/36?
Ok. 36 possible outcomes it is. Thanks everyone!

But do you count 2-2 as only one outcome?

There are 36 possible outcomes and no, those would be two different outcomes. So there are four possible ways to get a sum of four. 2 and 2, 2 and 2, 3 and 1, 1 and 3

The probability of rolling a sum of 4 on 2 dice.
You can get a sum of 4 by rolling:
First, Second
1, 3
3, 1
2, 2
2, 2
There are 4 possible rolls to get the target.
There are 6 x 6 potential rolls (36).
Therefore the chance of rolling a 4 is 4/36 = 1/9 = 11%
-------------
There are 36 outcomes for a roll of 2 dice but only 21 outcomes for the for the sum of the dice score.
-------------
It depends on what the answer asks, the way i have worked out the answer at the top is using a 3 then a 1 and a 1 then a 3 as different. I have thought of the probabilities of rolling each separately.

There are 36 possibilities when rolling 2 dice.
4 comes up in only 3 of those.
1-3
2-2
3-1
Odds are 3 in 36 of rolling exactly a "4"

There are 36 possible outcomes. Think of it this way, "for each face of first die, you can have 6 faces of second die. and since there are 6 faces of first die, you have 6 faces of first die * 6 faces of second die for each face on first die = 36 possibilities"
rolling 1 and 3 is NOT same as rolling 3 and 1. They are both distinct ways of getting 4.

I would say 21, because 3+1 is the same thing as 1+3. It's not like you can tell which die is which. Besides, it said the sum of 4, so it is kind of like a group.

its 36. each die is mutual exclusive. you may roll a three on one die and a one on the other and then roll again and have just the opposite.
