Before there was any gender, there was asexual reproduction, and budding etc. Then, a mutation occurred in one organism which allowed the sharing of genetic material with other organisms. Hermaphrodites came into being. Then, a mutation occurred which allowed one organism to share his genetic material with more organisms than other hermaphrodites, but he lost the ability to have offspring himself. But his genetic material was more widespread because of it. So, in this scenario, males came before females.

Well, how about a story that fits both theories? How about intersexed species coming first. They are male and female in the same organism. Then for whatever reason, whether mutations and/or some higher power, the species were split into to sexes? A lot of flowers and trees are still like that. They have both male and female organs and are pollenated by wind and creatures. Earthworms are intersexed and reproduce asexually.

Well, one would think (just to entertain the fact of the theory of evolution), that all creatures were asexual until the need to reproduce came about. Depending on the society in which a creature (or plant) lives, some would have to adapt to reproduce.

So, I think neither came first. I think that they were asexual until a need to reproduce in unconventional ways came into play.

Hope this helps!

for plants and animals.. they may come at the same time.. God didn't say it specifically, but for human, male of course. if you use that logic, male should be first then.
