k so I'm debating whether to go to prom or not because i mean what do you do there? I can't imagine a lot of people would be "grinding" in their formal dresses, also I heard kids go for like 20 minutes and then leave so it seems like just a waste! What were some of your prom experiences??

Grinding?
Usually they have people there to stop that from happening.
It's fun I guess--if you're with a bunch of people you can have fun with.

My prom experience was a mess;
I got ousted from a group that two of my other friends attempted to join because of some drama with dates and girls not getting along. So instead, I went with a small group of friends, who didn't make plans until the literal day beofre, which mainly was calling a restaurant to make a reservation.
Then, the 'day activity' basically was us (minus one of the girl's dates) going to see a horror movie, and then dropping them off to get ready. Then the person who was supposed to pick all of us up came late, and we missed the reservations almost. He didn't get his date a corsage, so she was pretty upset. Then on top of that one fo the people in our group ended up thinking it was hilarious to buy a suit from a thrift shop, which didn't get washed, wearing a homemade cummerbund, just to piss off his date.

Uh, yeah, stories of my life.

It was fun after setting the whole drama thing to the side though.

I went to every prom from ninth grade to graduation. I always had a lot of fun and people didn't leave after 20 minutes. In fact, I'm pretty sure most stayed until it was over. Then we went to after prom parties. Maybe things are different nowadays, but I certainly wouldn't put out all that money and effort if I was only going to be their a short time. That's just stupid.

We always went out for a nice dinner (in a group) at a good restraunt before the prom. Then, at the prom, we danced, talked, laughed. Had a great time.

Mine was really bad. I spent like $200 on a dress I didn't even really like... No one was really dancing except my English teacher and like 6 other people. We didn't have food and it was all really boring. I suggest planning a fun night out with your friends as a prom alternative. To make up for the fact that prom sucked so bad me and my friends pitched in for a limo and we went bowling and and to a pancake house for dinner in our formal wear. It was fun to dress up and we didn' have to dance to crappy music with my English teacher lol.

It's dinner, dancing, and mingling with your friends. A grown up experience for teens entering adulthood. Also one that you can't do over if you don't go. Enjoy yourself.

The point of prom is to get wasted and laid. Don't you watch any movies?
