the first 12 weeks are the most important for the babies brain to be developed...if you are pregnant you need to definitely be on prenatal vitamins...in fact your doctor should've had you on them before you got pregnant...My doctor's office was confused when I went in asking for a pregnancy test only being late less then 2 weeks...but for me I just knew...so reluctently they gave me the test and I was pregnant so right then and there I got my prenatal vitamins and everything else need...the first trimester (12 weeks) is such a delicate time when miscarriages happen...I can't believe they didn't test you...are they just assuming that yours is correct...is that what they said? Even so, I took a hpt, it doesn't mean anything to the doctor, they HAVE to do one...I would call them back or switch doctor's...the more I am thinking about this, that is scary...you need to have a great gyno for what you are about to go through for 9 months till delivery...good luck
I just wanted to add that I had my first sonogram (internally) at around 8 or 9 weeks to determined exactly how far along I was...I am going back over six years now so I don't remember exactly why...maybe I didn't know the date of my last period at the time...Anyhow my point is, they need to do that test on you before 12 weeks so you can start your pre-natal vitamins...

Many times OB/GYNs will not have you schedule an appointment for your first prenatal visit because it is quit common to have a miscarriage in the first 12 weeks, this occurs about 1/4 of the time. If this were to occur, you would most likely see the doctor anyways before the 12 weeks. Generally, the home tests are very accurate and the doctor's office uses basically the same ones; however, they can order blood work which is better at picking up the pregnancy hormone HCG than home tests are. Before 12 weeks there is really nothing to do as far as the doctors go, by that time the majority of pregnancies that last to that point will go full-term and at your first visit they will do blood work, urinalysis, and possibly an ultrasound. That is not to say that you shouldn't abstain from alcohol, smoking, drugs (even some OTC ones) if you believe you are pregnant. It wouldn't hurt to take a multi-vitamin with folic acid or even a prenatal vitamin.
If you really like your doctor and are curious to why they won't do the test, I would call and ask for the doctor to call you back. If you really don't care or get a bad "vibe" from the doctor, then look for another one. If you are in fact pregnant or plan to be soon, you'll definitely want to be comfortable with who you are seeing for your prenatal care.

Nope, my doctor did essentially a HPT, but only because he assumed that I wanted to terminate if I was pregnant. He explained that the HPTs are so sensitive now that they're no different than a blood test, unless there is reason to be concerned there's no need even for a visit with the doctor until 12 weeks. Odd, eh? My first reaction on seeing the two blue lines was to make a doctor's appointment, and he was baffled as to why I was there. The reason for this is that there's nothing a doctor can DO for you in the first ten or twelve weeks, other than explain what you should/shouldn't be doing and help you cope with morning sickness.

no, most trust a home test , they are super sensitive now days. They might do one at the 12 weeks mark, or listen for a heart beat. There is nothing that can be done before 12 weeks, even if you miscarry, there is no way to stop it. Most don't see women before that point anyway. Now they should have given you prenatals. Heck we are in the army and we are at a small base and have to use doctors off post. Between the referal time with our insurance and then making an appointment I was 13 weeks along before my first appointment. I didn't see a doctor any earlier with any of my pregnancies

No almost all doctors now rely on HPT tests in their office, unless there is a problem.
Also most OBs won't see you until after 12 weeks. At 12 weeks basically every organ of your baby is formed, so how important do you really think prenatal care is?

Get a new GYNO / They( the Doctor) in order to treat you and bill your insurance or bill you they need to know you are pg.They( the Doctor) them self have to order the test, it can be a urine test or blood work but is has to be order by the doctor. The doctor can not just take your word for it.
Good Luck

call them back and tell them you missed your period and you would like to come in and take a pregnancy test, its not a prenatal check its just a pregnancy test, if the Deni you a test i would definitely complain to someone in charger then , go so where else.
i never heard of a doctor refusing to give a pregnancy test, especially when your paying for it.

The first thing my doc does every visit is have me take a tinkle in a cup. They check the hormone levels and everything. For them to not do a test is ridiculous. Get a new doctor.

something is really off there..when i went to mine they had me bring proof of pregnancy...from the college clinic i went to first...and if i did not have one they were going to do a test...and i will have three appointments now on friday and i have only been pregnant for 7 weeks...i would not go to that office anymore...cause before 12 weeks is the crucial time during pregnancy and they are suppost to be monitoring things, giving you vit., and in most cases an ultrasound...in fact...i am going for my 2nd ultrasound on friday...cause the first one saw a heartbeat but a little low and they want to check on the baby....and even if they do not do an ultrasound that early...they are suppost to do blood work and a pap...good luck on finding an new office!!! CONGRATS

They have to! how can you set up a prenatal appointment at 12 weeks but not be for sure of pregnancy? I think your doc should do whatever you ask/require of them, you or your insurance is paying them for their services. I would definatly find a different doctor.
