I used to bite my nails while growing up...then I started to use nail polish, didn't like the taste of it, so I stopped the biting. Now, I don't use anything and have been free of nail biting for a long time!

I know all about this, I bit my nails since the time I was 5! What helped me stop was having my nails painted all the time. I know for other people they always had to have their hands busy OR found something else to chew on. Now I dont know how that would work considering you might become attatched to biting that other thing. Ive found it just takes extreme will power. Good luck!

I think nail biter should seek for help most on the psycology side more than the physical like nail treatments or something. My husband used to bite his nails all his life and he is more than 50's. When he met me almost instantly, he stopped this habit. Of course, he knew I was a nail technician and he was a little ashamed of doing this. It has been almost 6 years now and he has the most beautiful nails a man can have. (And of course, I am her manicurist ;)

OR

I have been bitting my nails since i was a little girl.. i am now 24 and still suffer from that problem. I do it the most when i am stressed.
I tried SOOO many things to overcome this and I could never succeed. The ONLY way i stopped is by getting acrylic nails. I have stopped (obviously) since. Now I always have my nails done.
Good Luck =)

Get some of that really foul-tasting stuff to paint on the nails, that is supposed to help.
And think about THIS the next time you want to stick them in your mouth:
There's more horrible germs under your NAILS than there are in a toilet!

Hot sauce is dangerous if you accidentally get it in your eye. I have a habit of touching my eyes, not compulsively but if you have habanero sauce on your fingers, once is enough to damage you eyes. Alternate plan: there is a paint-on liquid used for children who suck their thumbs that you can buy. Tastes very bitter and disgusting. And is very hard to wash off. I know because my sister thought it would be funny to put it on my toothbrush. I had to buy a new one. Also non-toxic.
