I have a 10 gallon tank. It has 2 rosy barbs, 3 black tetras, 3 neon tetras and 2 mollies (i think). I also have 2 live plants. I leave the light on from about 11am to about 10-11pm. I see that i have what looks like rust growing on the rocks, plants and the filter. My water is fine i just tested it. Is it an algae that is growing from too much light possibly? Any way to fix it besides less light?

Brown algae is what you have and Pee Tee is right, it's hard to get rid of entirely. Reducing the light does seem to help sometimes, but not always. The only way I have found to deal with it is to manually remove as much as possible and do very frequent large water changes until it's gone.

Yep,it's just another form of algae, and it's pretty hard to be rid of it. I'm not sure that a reduced photo-period would help with this particular type,as I've seen it develop in tanks with a much shorter light cycle. The rocks can be cleaned manually, but the live plants are probably in trouble. Keep up the good water conditions and sooner or later it will run out of whatever it's living on.----Sorry ------Good luck.----PeeTee

That is a type of algae. You can buy a algae free liquid formula or fizz tablets.
