The one is derived from 01 which is the country code for USA and is used before all long distance calls made on land lines...

Here in Canada, the 1 before a three digit number such as 413 indicates that it is a long distance call.

For example: 1-604-***-**** would be what I would dial to call Vancouver from Toronto.

Maybe you are referring to road numbers?? Like I 75 runs north to south in the Kentucky countryside. Then the letter I stands for "Interstate", meaning that the road goes within several states and the cars can get on that freeway and drive without stopping for miles and miles.

Or is it some math problem? Then I do not know.
