That was probably before glasses were such a fashion statement. I think nowadays men think that enhances their cuteness and could also show how hip they are.
Years ago I think women who wore glasses were perceived to be very smart, which was a negative quality in a woman at one time. I think some "leftover mentalities" still see women in such ways. Men were intimidated by smart women, some insecure ones still are. I know of one well known right wing male who sees a certain successful, well educated, high IQ woman as the anti christ.

Dorothy Parker was really a clever lady. In response to your question, I think men,generally, make passes at anything in a skirt. OOps! Forgot....not many of us wear dresses and skirts anymore.
The quote i find so amusing is: "I'm never going to be famous. My name will never be writ large on the roster of Those Who Do Things. I don't do any thing. Not one single thing. I used to bite my nails, but I don't even do that any more."

It's probably true. I don't know if it's because we tend to associate people wearing glasses with being brainy and kind of socially awkward, or maybe it's because wearing glasses means that you have a health problem (poor eyesight). Maybe it's also because contacts are so easily available now, people think you should get them...

I used to hear this all the time growing up in the 60s and 70s. That's when I would hide their glasses.

no it is not true. if you are self confident you'll get all the passes you can handle, glasses or no.
(sorry, i'm being pedantic, but it was Dorothy Parker. She also said, "candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker." clever gal.)

I NEVER understood that cliche. I happen to think women in glasses are HOT!
Those recent, trendy rectangular ones are Sssexy!

not true , some women look good in glasses , just like some men do , and others don't .
