They are alike in that they both overthrew a despotic government, that of Batista versus that of Louis XVI. They are alike that shortly afterwards, they slaughtered or imprisoned their enemies, causing others to go into exile "abroad." They are alike in that after a short time, they installed an autocrat. Napoleon Bonaparte made himself First Consul in 1795, then Emperor of the French in 1804. Fidel Castro made himself Maximum Lidr. They are alike in that Napoleon enriched his brothers by making them kings of other countries. Fidel has enriched Raul. Napoleon marched into other countries, won all his battles, except that he lost the last one at Waterloo. We are all waiting to see next how the Cuban and the French revolutions are alike.

Both started with idealistic revolutionaries hoping to bring about a better country, which then spiraled into a period of chaos (and violence), and then a dictator rising to the top. (Fidel Castro and Napoleon Bonaparte, respectively.)
