I find their music (parts anyways) like no other-instantly gratifying-but would like to know what the band name means-is it to do with down syndrome?or just a "down" meaning grumpy emo Yankee kids with too much money?

I know they are Armenian ,I was thinking it was a urine take against rich white Yankee doodles who are always complaining about how bad things are-listening to the Smiths and wingeing about how Daddy doesn't spend anytime with there fat,bloated corpses.

dont think it has any reference to downs syndrome at all.... but their music is fantastic

The bands name comes from a poem written by guitarist Daron Malakian called "Victims of a Down" which was about the armenian genocide. That was going to be the original name for the band but they felt that the word "victims" made it too specific to their particular injustice and so they expanded it to refer to an entire system that is being ruined.

they said it themselves....ITS NOT ANTI AMERICAN, AND ITS NOT PRO-ANARCHY....its simply an objection to the way that the world has handled itself through the past when faced with problems....remember, they are Armenian....Think of the Armenian Genocide and the injustice of it...Then their name will make sense.
