If a lot of people answer this question, you're gonna get a lot of different answers. Common fertilizer as we know it today contains Nitrogen, Phosphate and Potassium (Potash). Thus N-P-K. Nitrogen gives plants their rich green color, it also stimulates leaf growth. Phosphate is important for normal root development, also vital for plants to take up water and nutrients. Potassium helps plants better tolerate extreme weather conditions.
So if you want some rapid growth in your lawn, use more Nitrogen. 34-0-0 would definitely cause rapid growth. So stick with something like 10-10-10.

RE:
What type of fertilizer for lawn? 10-20-10? 34-0-0? or what?
I see several different formulations of fertilizer at store, but what is best to make grass grow. I have sprayed my yard with weed killer and now all that is left is bermuda grass,, I'd like to get it to spread and fill in the bare spots this summer. A guy at the store said he uses 10-20-10 on...

Location, location. location. North? South? East? West?
Go back to the garden center and ask some specific questions.
a. What is the best grass to grow in this climate zone?
b. Is the grass seed a mix of both winter and summer grasses?
c. Does this seed come with a fertilizer in it?
Next, be on the lookout for common weeds such as burr clover, and dandelion, and do your best to remove them.
Scott's Weed n' Feed is a good basic fertilizer that also is good for preventing common weeds.
34-0-0 is good for green growth in an established lawn. 10-20-10 is an all-around fertilizer for green leaves, root growth, and flower formation. If you are reseeding your lawn, you might want to add some 10-20-10 to your soil. If you (sigh) really want the Bermuda grass, then go with 34-0-0.
Make sure you water the grass thoroughly after applying the fertilizer. By thoroughly I mean soaking it in real good.
To maintain your lawn, you might want to check your watering system. If you only have the water on for 30 minutes, you may have only saturated the top 1 inch of the soil. You may want to try having the water on for a longer period of time to saturate the soil to a depth of 5-6 inches to encourage deeper root growth. Deeper root growth will help thicken the grass plants and encourage more growth above the soil surface.
It's also a good idea to add fertilizer and water it in once every six weeks or so. Again, Scotts Weed n' Feed will help fertilize as well as help reduce weeds in your lawn.
www.scotts.com will have more info about their products. So far I've only tried Weed n' Feed, so that's the only one I know about. I have heard good things about Turf Builder, but have never tried it.

It's not about quantity it's about the QUALITY of the game! The ref was not on our side, blame the players for their behavour! - While the Liverpool players were loosing their minds (some at least), the United squad kept cool in the heat of the game. Mancehster United won fairly and the result matched the play perfectly. More goals could have happened but let me tell you - Liverpool had the whole week to rest while United did not! Have a nice day! =)
