I have been out of high school since 2004. I decided not to go to school right after because I did not know what I wanted to do at the time. Now I have decided I would like to teach English and History. I have absolutly no idea where to start though. I had a horrible guidance counselor and didn't give me any good information while I was in high school. I am just itching to go back to school. Despair has begun to set in because I fear that if I dont start figuring this out now too much time will pass by and I will be too old to go back. Please help me. (I am planning on going to school in the Boston, MA area.)

There is no problem at all going to college after a few years off! You can do this.

If you are feeling a little lack of confidence about your study skills, you could start at one of the Community Colleges. Take the basic Freshman Composition course first, and also the basic math course. Once you have warmed up a little then you could either finish an Associates degree at the CC or you could enroll at UMASS Boston or the Lowell or Salem campuses or one of the other state colleges. They are perfectly respectable and will be able to prepare you well for a job as a teacher.

State colleges actually would be better than going to a big name school because they actually have the specific courses you need in order to get certified.

To get started, just go in to the local Community College and ask them what to do. They get people all the time who want to come back to school. No problem.

Have fun!

Good luck!
