for my english class, i have to write a report on of mice and men, and i need a theme.

can someone please give me a theme of the book that includes 3 main points as to why that theme is true? for example, a theme that i though of was that sometimes in life, you have to make sacrifices, but i could only think of one point and that was that george had to shoot lennie. but i either need a new theme or two more points to that theme. HELP PLEASE

Easy. Review the material and find a pattern that appeals to you. Visit www.wikipedia.org for more information or even type in cliff notes or spark notes on google... they both should have tons of information about the books "themes"... and should help you get ideas.

Great theme with a guaranteed A ... of course depending on how well you write

Handicaps in Of Mice and Men

The whole story has characters who are oppressed because of their perceived inabilities, from Lenny and his mental issues, to the ranch hand with the paralyzed arm, and the African-American man to the wife who is seen as useless as a woman. For one moment in the book they all try and get together and figure out a common vision for the future, in the tack room, but then it all disappears and evaporates as they tend to feed on each other. Interesting, this is the one scene they cut out of the movie ... one might well ask why.

The title comes from a line in a poem by Robert Burns. It is called,"Ode to a Mouse". The line is important to the meaning of the story. "Best laid plans of mice and men go oft astray and leave us not but grief and pain for promised joy."
In the story there are all kinds of plans, none of which come to be. They all go astray.
