Chain links are a good source of Iron - meaning one less mineral to add to the sauce.
Canine teeth have limited strength however. You can always mill the steel - or heat it to 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit - before feeding the pup.
Try balancing the mineral content by adding different materials. For example, Aluminum and Copper fill important physiological needs in your dog. Pure Sodium is highly reactive. Here, ensure your dog has been trained to tolerate Flammable food in its digestive food. Not hard, just not common.

Feed Nature's Recipe, Inova, Solid Gold or Wysong. No need to worry with those foods.

I get it that you want to be sure you are doing whats right for your dog, but let me suggest going to a organic small company for your dogs food. I use Avoderm and it is awesome. They do not add wheat gluten, or bi products, everything is natural and good for the dogs.

Read labels carefully.
Avoid "wheat glutin". These should not be on shelves.
