Domestication does NOT take thousands of years... Russian scientists domesticated foxes in 50 years. Of course that was 50 generations of foxes, but you get the idea.... Now, coyote's are not the best pet for the simple reason that they love to roam, and a bit hard headed, and have a great prey drive (sorta like husky/malamute but worse) The same with jackals... now If you had 50 years to breed coyotes or jackals with the characteristics you want, to other coyote or jackals with the right temperment, you may get domestic canines...

But a first generation dog is not domesticated, only tamed.

A wild animal will always have that wild tendency. But it is possible to domesticate them. I mean, wolves have been domesticated, I don't see why a coyote can't be. Just remember, socialize, socialize, socialize!!!!!

domestication takes thousands of years. If you mean tame, yes it is possible, but you need to be very experienced with dog dominance training, or they will turn on you to take over the "pack".

In most states though, it is illegal, and if it isn't your neighbors will probably shoot or trap them if they see them.

I would hesitate to say that most animals "can't be domesticated," but it's not as simple as going out, catching one, and taming it. Domestication requires certain genetic changes, and that takes many, many years.

They will not end up like a pet. They may tolerate you but they are wild animals and their instincts will come out as they get older.

No not totally, the wild animal will always stay with them and cannot be trusted. It is the way nature is.

No, they are wild animals who have not been around people for any extended periods of time. They can turn on you at anytime.

yes but you'd have to work really hard with it because it will still show instinctive signs of being wild.
