Yes, it works. Some brands bettter than others. It's always a god idea to try on an inconspicuous place first, somewhere your clothes will cover if you do turn into an "Oompa Loompa". Personally I've never had trouble with orangey results. Or dark hands. Anytime I've used sunless tanner I just wash my hands really well as soon as I'm done applying.
As for your back, it's easiest to have someone do it for you. But since you asked, it sounds like that's not an option. The best way I can think of would be to spray it on your hands, rub it around like lotion, then reach back and apply it to your back. But that may be tricky, since you could end up with just streaks if you don't reach everywhere. If you don't have someone to do it for you, you may be better off skipping the back.
And one more tip... when applying to the legs, be sure to give it plenty of time to dry before you go swimming or out in the heat. The first time I used sunless tanner, I applied it 5 minutes before me and my friends left for the lake. It was pretty hot and when sweat formed behind my knees, it mixed with the tanner and made streaks where it ran down my calves. Not pretty.
Good luck!

Oh I love the SPRAY! I've tried the lotions, and the foams, and the foams did work but no matter how often or how well I washed my hands I ALWAYS ended up with oompa loompa hands. THE SPRAY IS AWESOME! I get the medium one-- I think its like 2 shades darker-- and the can sprays from any angle-- look over your shoulder in a mirror and spray baby spray! You might have to go at it from different angles -- but its a spray so itll reach. Man I love that stuff lol now I want to go out and get some now! :P HOpe this helped

I bought some Coppertone stuff last year right before a dance! It worked, but I wound up with streaks AND it dyed my white bra brown! Just make absolutely sure its dry before you put any clothes on and dont do it the day of an important event! =) I asked my friend to help me put it on my back since i couldnt reach! hope this helps!

I never used it. But I recommend you exfoliate and moisturize lightly before appying. I am assuming even thought its spray you may have to blend into skin. Use light plastic gloves when you blend so your hands won't turn dark brown. Good luck.

You need someone to do that for you. I just use it on my arms and legs. And it really does work. Once or twice a day, Sometimes I forget a day. No big deal.
