Columbia is one of the most difficult colleges in the world to get into. According to a recent article in the NY TImes, this year Columbia rejected over 90% of the kids who applied. I personally know one kid with a 4.43. gpa, 2150 SAT and lots of great extracurriculars who was rejected. The paper said that hundreds of kids with 800 SAT scores and/or 4.0 averages were rejected.
If you do not have pretty nearly the very best record in every way among all the kids in your high school, then you probably would be just throwing away $100 applying to Columbia.
But life is not over! There are 4000 colleges in the USA and only about 15 of them come anywhere near being as selective as Columbia. So there are hundreds and hundreds of schools you could get into. Take a look around and see what some of the other schools are that would fit your qualifications.

Absolutely... Colombia, or any college for that matter, always likes to see their applicants do better every year. Doing worse or just staying at a decent but not incredible constant may actually hurt you as an applicant. But just so you know, Colombia is one of those slightly understated colleges, and the competition is high. Good Luck!!

Improvementt is good, but if was extremely low @ first than they will probably think u r a slacker @ first then u work hard. U have to keep ur GPA high and keep it that way. That way they know u work hard all the time.

Yes, absolutely. If your overall GPA is just okay, but you did better in your later years in high school than you had done in your earlier years, they weigh those later years much more heavily.
So, if your GPA has improved, keep it up!
