It was originally created by Macromedia. Adobe Dreamweaver incoporates more supports for many other web technologies such as CSS, JavaScript, and various server-side scripting frameworks.
Adobe is just a newer release in other words, that has taken over from Macromedia

I'll bet that the task bar for selecting what you want to do has a guide like "content or help" with a bunch of short tutorials. There is a little known secret amongst us beginners. Every program that has been created by companies for making web pages has a "Content, or Short tutorial, and Help Tools" all built right into the list along the tools bar. Like the with browsers you see File, Edit, View, History, etc. on some more common things like Internet Explorer. I checked Dreamweaver out at the Adobe site... I'm impressed! A five hundred dollar program at your disposal and no one around you knows how to use it? WOW? Whose your accountant and where does your group get their bankroll?
