There are some great books out there like, You on a Diet, and Dancers Diet. Even if you are not a dancer, but you want to have that lean dancer look or just loose a few pounds, I highly suggest this book. It puts everything into simple terms. Also there are modified exercieses that are better for people with back problems or knee issues such as pilates or yoga. These will help melt away the issue areas and strengthen muscles while you loose weight. The main issue is making sure you have a balance between both, but the best way to loose weight and keep it off is to do endurance training, which would mean long time exercise with low weight, this makes a lean body, with a consious diet. Fad diets only work for a short peroid of time and then when you are "done" with the fad diet, your body over compensates for the sugars you lost in the fad diet, and when you go back to your "normal" eating habits you will gain weight back quicker and you will have more fat which makes it harder to loose the next time. It is all about your metabolism. I find counting calories helpful rather than omiting certain foods. Like I said before, even if you are not a dancer, The Dancer's Diet is great because it explaines metabolism.

You can, but the evidence is you will have difficulty sustaining the loss. A recent paper from the University of California showed that 2/3 of patient that diet without exercise actually end up putting weight on.

Depending on the severity of your back problem exercise may help it too. Go see a physio and get advice, there are few conditions that would preclude all exercise.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

I always found having a baby to be a pretty good way of hitting the 'Slimmer of the Month' headlines.

Amputation comes a close second.

Seriously though, sorry about your back, that's the first thing you should be looking to improve, with the consequent postural improvements. See a good sports physio (they can give you effective exercises for your back).

If you have a sedentary lifestyle, then your food consumption does not need to release loads of energy, and should be reasonable, not excessive. Try balancing your diet by quality and volume accordingly.

If you want to do this, you can. Believe!

Exercise is always the best option.

Keep in mind that exercising will likely help you back pain. By strengthening your back, and losing weight and taking more strain off your back, those pains may subside.

What you need to find are low impact exercises that do not strain the back. For instance, there are yoga techniques that are designed for people with back problems. Yoga is a wonderful thing as it increases overall wellness, strength, flexibility and balance. And since it's impact free, if you find the right yoga exercises, it won't hurt your back.

Go to your local bookstore or library and try to find exercise regimens designed for people like you with bad backs. Trust me, it will help.

Course, always consult with a doctor before starting any exercise program.

I went from a size 14 to a size 10 without even trying, just by changing my diet. You don't even need to go without anything you like, you just have to choose what you eat it with. I did it by food combining. The principle is that starch foods use a different substance in the stomach for digestion from that used for proteins (one needs acid, one needs alkali). If you don't eat both at the same meal they don't 'fight' in the stomach and the uptake of goodness from each is better. You can't have tradional roast - skip either the potatoes or the meat. Unfortunately most of our meals put the two together eg shepherds pie, meat pie, spag bog, everything.
Another option is the blood type diet, which matches what you eat to what your body is evolved to process. Type Os are meat eaters, type As are vegetarian. The book will also tell you what piles on the weight.

Greetings,

There are various exercises that can be done, but you would need to consult you physician before beginning them. There are other ways of losing weight, such as consuming enough water, watching what you eat, such as staying away from bread, and sweets, and eating in portions. Eat when you are hungry not because you are bored, or watching TV, not saying that you do that, but eating when you are not hungry is a way to add calories. Also be careful what times you eat. Eating late will add pounds on to you because your body is slowing down, and doesn't have enough time to work off the extra calories. Never lay down right after eating, just like you are going to sleep all of your organs are slowing down for the night. And the food, in so many words, is just sitting there, and not being broken down allow you body at least 15 minutes before laying down after eating.

I wish you luck, and I know that you can do it!

You don’t need to exercise for long periods of time. Short, sharp sets of exercise will produce better results should you work hard. Get a bypassing rope, skip for two units, do push ups for 60 seconds or so, skip for two minutes, rest for one minute. Then change the push approximately something else like sit ups as well as do the set again. Repeat it five times and it’s an instant, effective workout that will advance results than a long run or swim.

yes of course you can lose weight. you put weight on by eating too many calories and lose it by eating to few. aim at 1250 calories a day and the weight will definitely come off. if you did lose weight it would put less strain on your back and make walking easier. try aqua exercises, you don't need to join a class, you don't even need to swim, just hang on to the side and kick at first for a few weeks and build up, no strain on back but still getting exercise. good luck it will be worth it.
