i thought i was 16 weeks pregnant, but when i had gotten my ultrasound done, the Dr. said that i was 14 weeks. I read that the farther along you are, the more inaccurate the results are... is this true?

I'm assuming you mean accurate in terms of dating your pregnancy. In that case then you are right, that the farther along you are the less accurate it is in determining how far along you are, since genetics play a part in your baby's body type. When you have an early ultrsound it's very accurate, within a week of dating the pregnancy, later on it can be off by weeks. If your first ultrasound matches with your LMP, they will not change your due date based off a later ultrasound.

What you read was ABSOLUTELY correct. The farther along you are, the more inaccurate the sonogram is in determining age of the fetus. It is more accurate in determining weight the farther along you are (and the sex).
If you have kept track of your menstral cycles you could go back and count approx. 15 days past the start date of your period ~~ this date should be within just a couple days of when you ovulated and got pregnant.
Also remember, that most times, by the time you find out for sure that you are pregnant you are already at least 2 weeks along.

when i got pregnant, i couldnt really remember my last period. i also thought i was 16 weeks, but then when i got my first ultrasound, it turned out that i was 13 weeks. they say that the earlier the better, but that it was very accurate.. when they say the farther along, the more inaccurate, they mean like 25 weeks and up. all babies grow at different rates from about that point on... so i think your ultrasound was pretty accurate. Congrats on your pregnancy, good luck, and God bless... get lots of rest!

No, it would make sense for the results to be more accurate the farther along you are. I found out the sex of my baby when I was 13 weeks. When I was 33 weeks I had a sonogram and was told he was 4lbs. The next day I had to be induced for medical reasons, and guess what??? When he was born he was 4lbs 1oz.

My scan results were accurate every time so i really couldn't tell you. Ask questions if you're unsure, they may have made a mistake.
