From a Yahoo news article -- Only 8.4 percent of big league players last season were black -- the lowest number in at least two decades. "Obviously, he would not be satisfied with where we are now," Rachel Robinson said, referring to the man she still calls Jack. "He would be disappointed, because he felt we were on the way toward some lasting change." --

What in the world??? I don't understand why this is even an issue. The problem that Jackie faced was that blacks were not allowed. Today, the "problem" is that they prefer basketball and football. That isn't a problem in my eyes. Everyone who is able and willing can play, so why does Mrs. Robinson think Jackie would think this isn't "lasting change?"

He would be disappointed because Black participation in baseball has declined consierably because Latino ball players have become the new "in" thing; whereas, in the days of Jackie Robinson, Blacks were being scouted heavily in all areas of the country because of their incredible ability. Today, scouts are going all over Latin America to get these ballplayers because of their abilities, allthwhile building baseball camps in those countries. In America, the dedication that used to be there for Blacks has dwindled considerably to the point where the ballparks in Black areas are now rundown. This leads Blacks toward other direction such as footbal and basketball.

Do you believe that all black people play basketball and football every black person is not 6-6 and run a 4-4 forty and weigh 235lbs.the black kids are still playing it,s when they get to high school when the problem starts and by the time they get to college you see baseball is a subjective game and a coach can say well your not quite right for our team I,m going to tell you a story of what happen to me when I was in high school my senior year I made the team my junior year so my senior year I decide I want to play we have a coaching change that year. Believe me or not but when we went into the batting cage and the others kids took turns with the batting machine. When it was my turn to bat the coach him self would pitch to me I did well against him it gets better when we were fielding fly balls in the out field the coach took me to the parking lot during school and hit the balls up into the air and I had to catch them between the cars and over the cars I caught them well he cut me and I ask him why he said that since I was a senior he had a junior that he wanted to groom for next year oh here is the good part he cut another senior and brought him back I don,t have to tell you what color he was and he was not half as good as me and everyone on the tam knew it and white people want to know why black people don,t trust them

Amen! But... Jackie would be or should be disappointed because of the bad black apples causing problems off any and all fields and the holier than thou attitude they take on it. All he went thru to get blacks where they are today in baseball and this is the attitude they have? They're all a bunch of rich, spoiled, LAZY, babies! Misssing games every time they have a little boo boo. Poor things!

Major League Baseball reached its apex while Jackie still played; it is not a good thing from any perspective today.

I think Jackie would be disappointed, too, but on a whole host of issues.
