i wouldn't personally. i had 5 years of lessons an its only in the last 2 years since i havent that i have improved far greater than with lessons. Try to teach yourself tabalature. The key is kepp going. It mite not sound rite at first. Start slow then get to pace. Everything will fall into place.

I have been playing guitar for over 30 yrs, and as I look back, on "should I have taken lessons", there is a lot of "ground that hasn't been plowed", that would have even furthered my success as a guitar player! The thing to remember is, as you progress, progress your lessons, there are lessons out there that are uniquely specialized in different areas of guitar playing! Personally, I would listen to or audition the person giving the lessons, and if I liked what they were playing, then I would take their lessons!

That's ultimately your chioce, but if you feel like you can learn and progress without lessons, go for it. I've been playing for 15 years and have never taken lessons. As long as you can find the right resources and you know what you need to learn you can do it yourself. Your guitar instructor is probably just giving you things to take home and practice, why pay him to do that when you can get all kinds of practice material online or from a book at the library?

I started off with lessons and did not learn much. It is better to go online and learn that way. There are a lot of good web sites.(learnlicks.com my fav.) Also it depends on what type of music you like to play. So it would be helpful to take lessons, but if it is punk, metal, ska, grunge, ect you are better off without the lesson. But if you wanna play folk or blues or classical then take the lessons

Ive been playing 11 years self taught. Lessons are great for the basics and how to place your fingers for cord progressions... after that either you have the skill or you dont.
