why does david stern always have so much trouble suspending players without having the players union protesting the legnth or even the suspension itself even though the players have done wrong (i.e. jermaine o'neal, artest detroit brawl where o'neal got his suspension lifted)....i havent heard a peep about an appeal or anything from the nfls players union or pacman jones himself

The players association is backing the suspension in this one. In fact players have been lobbying the commish to be tough on him. 99% of the players are great guys who give back to the community. And they're tired of a few like Pacman making them all look bad. The problem with the NBA is there's a higher percentage of bad apples. So nothing is done.

I was shocked when I heard the length of the suspensions. I don't disagree with them, but something miraculous happened here. Word from the commissioner's office from a few weeks ago indicated Goodell was putting player's off the field behavior as a top priority. He wasn't kidding! It doesn't happen much these days when you hear tough talk, and the ruling handed out matches the tough talk.
The surprising thing to me was that these punishments seemed to be handed down prior to any convictions. The old way of "innocent until proven guilty" is only in a court of law, not with an employer. It is interesting that the "new" NFL is no longer waiting for a jury trial or the sentence from some judge with season tickets. The league is not waiting for any of the court system hijinks, they are going to hand out punishment swiftly. Wow, what a difference. I think I like it.

Pacman said before the suspension that whatever it was he would take it like a man, oh boy, i bet he didnt think it was gonna be for the season, That is way too long for a case still pending, 12 games max. Anyways, staying out of trouble, good conduct is in every players contract, they get paid to play on sundays and stay out of trouble the other 6 days. If I got paid 5 million a year, I'd bring the party to my mansion every night until im around 32-34, then retire and go do whatever I want the rest of my life.
.Pac is not a bad guy, you dont just dump guys you grew up with.

NFL suspension of Pacman Jones falls under the "conduct detrimental to the league" clause in the collective bargaining agreement. Meaning, unless Pacman wants to challenge the league in Federal court, he has no recourse. Challenging the NFL is akin to challenging God, you will quickly find yourself thrown to the depths.

Goddell is using Pacman as the measuring stick for all of the others in the league to follow. Goddell will not let the NFL become a joke like MLB or NBA, he's going to suspend without mercy because the NFL is such a cash cow.

I guess I am the only Football fan that doesn't agree with the Year long ban of Adam Pac-man Jones. I Think he shouldn't be suspend that long because he has not been Charge with anything. Tank Johnson is in Jail and is not Suspension. How in the hell can this man get a Year long suspending. I believe he should get 8 games, Not a year. Now want is this many going to do with football. He may get into more problems now that Football is taken away from him. They should try to help him not take away his lively hood. By the way this new conduct policy sucks because a player may get in trouble one time and get a big suspension. These NFL players should be able to go out to parties without people trying to get them in trouble. You know how some guys are is Vince Young is with a nice looking female the guys will hate on him and someone may want to fight him. I guess that how it goes.

I agree with you Leo. This suspension is ridiculous. my god, the man is involved in an investigation into a shooting. he did not pull the trigger mind you. Jamal Lewis goes to jail for drugs, oh no big deal. Ray Lewis is accused of a double murder, hey, lets make him the super bowl MVP. Michael Irvin has done every drug under the sun. Ricky Williams had to test positive for illegal drugs 3 times before he got a 4 game suspension...3 separate times. From what I've seen, Pacman Jones is basically guilty of hanging out with the wrong crowd...I mean the guys only 2 years or so outta college, he just needs to mature a little more. This is something he can grow out of. Chris Henry being an alcoholic or Ray Lewis being a murderer isn't so easy to grow out of.

people forget, just because these guys are in the spotlight, doesn't mean they don't make mistakes. They're people just like everyone else. this suspension is totally unfair to Pacman and his future. A lesser sentence would've got the point across just fine.

According to ESPN radio this morning, the players union was in on the suspension. I think with all the antics from the players over the last few years, the NFLPA decided enough was enough because a few of these dinks are ruining the reputation of the league and the players that follow the rules and the law.

Because the NFLPA knows that Pacman Jones is a lost cause. Even they've had enough of him. He's a thug, just like Chris Henry. I think Jones' last run in with law enforcement was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Don't you think Goodell talked with the NFLPA before he annouced anything just to avoid any controversy? I'd bet he did. Maybe Stern should take a few lessons from Goodell.

Because they all know that the suspension is a gift from Goodell. They can't complain b/c he should have been expelled from the entire league and they knew that!
