No offense, but I really wonder about a person's commitment to their companion animal when they get one based on what somebody else told them to get.
If a person wants an animal, they need to think about a) what animals they love b) how much space they have for an animal c) how much food and vet care they can afford d) how much time they have to put into training and socialization and exercise e) do they want a really active pet or one that's around mostly for cuddling and conversation f) what do the people who share their home think g) what is their work and/or school schedule h) will they be moving anytime soon i) do they already have any equipment like crates, litter boxes, bird cages, aquarium ... etc., or which of these can you afford to buy? j) how much money are they willing to pay in order to acquire an animal k) eight billion other things.
Sorry to be mean. I just get really upset when I see people ask what animal they should get, as if they're asking "Which shirt is better? The red one or the blue one?"
People should only get pets because they have a sincere desire to have one and because they love that type of animal. How can another person tell you what your desires are?
I mean, hey, I love dogs. I think everyone should have one! But I realize that's impractical because lots of people wouldn't be able to care for one. At the same time, I'm not a big fan of rodent pets, but I know that lots of people are totally in love with their rodents.
So what I'm saying is: No one can tell another person what kind of pet to get. Sorry if this sounds mean.

I have no idea!!!!
Before getting any animal there are a few things you may wish to consider. How much time you have to devote to it,is perhaps most important. What your living environment is would have much to play in it as well. Are you wanting something that requires a little or a lot of care.Another important thing to consider is the life spans of different animals. Then their is the expense of feeding and up keep.
I'd say find what best fits your life,it is far easier to have an animal that compliments that rather then one which adds extra hassles and commitments. To many times people get an animal only to realize later it is more work then they imagined.Or worse grows up and becomes a nuisance.
Pets are dependent upon you so make sure you get what you know you can take care of.

It depends on how much work you want to do. A fish, good if you don't have any time. Cat's are good, they don't really need a whole bunch of attention. Dogs are great, I love them, it depends on what kind though, if you want to have a lot of work, get a puppy, but I think it's best to have some type of experience with dogs. They also require a lot of attention. If you get a cat or dog, adopt one from the Humane Society, you'll be getting a friend, and saving a life!

What kind of living space do you have? How much time are you prepared to give your new pet? Do you or your family have allergies?
If you have a bit of time to spare, go with a dog or cat. But remember that they need to see a vet for shots, spaying/neutering/ and so on. If not, try fish. But remember to take care of the aquarium.

Get a cat. They would possibly not be soaring over you always like a puppy, you do not ought to allow them to external always such as you do with a puppy. Cats are aloof and that makes a few humans consider they're egocentric. But while you're having a quite dangerous day and you come back house to cry, the cat will run over to you, headbutt your cheek and purr your tears away. They are cute while they are gambling- my cats love my shoelaces first-rate as toys and it is hilarious to peer certainly one of them leap 2 or 3 toes off the bottom simply to assault a flying shoelace.

People who buy animals just for the sake of having them are called collectors and usually end up neglected their pets horribly. You should get a pet because you WANT that specific animal, because you have learned about that animal, because you are fully prepared to care for it to the best of your ability for it's entire life. Not just because you think you need another animal.
