Okay I heard that if your job isnt going to pay you for maternity leave, then you can apply for maternity unemployment. I know if it does exist, then they should be requirements because I know the goverment doesnt give money to just anyone. Does anyone know about this?? Or what kind of help I can get if it doesnt exist? Im 5 months pregnant and Its gonna be 2 months that Ive worked in this job. Im planning on leaving right before Im ready to give birth which would make almost 6 months of me being here. I live in the U.S - Miami,FL. Thanx!

*21 weeks preggo

Not unless your state is different!! I suppose if you are somehow fired or laid off in the process, you might have some unemployment, but wiht only 6 months at the job it would be very little.

90% of jobs dont pay you for maternity leave. I've been saving mine up for the whole 9 months now and will have 4.5 weeks of vacation, personal and sick leave that I have accumulated-- no extra maternity leave. That's how most jobs work.

NOPE. I live in florida as well. By law, the employer has to give you I think it is 8 weeks or 12 weeks maternity leave once you have worked there for 12 months. This maternity leave does NOT have to be paid. It just means they have to hold you job for you until you get back (they cant fire you if you come back within the time given)

I actually got laid off in the beginning of my pregnancy (once they found out) and I am collecting unemployment now. Actively SEARCHING for a job, but no one wants a preggo nowadays. But, in order to have unemployment from the state, you have to be able ot work and looking for work. If you are on maternity leave, and just had a baby, you are not able to work, therefore are not eligible for unemployment.

SO, if you find a program that does help women during this time, I would love to know about it! :) As of right now, I am just trying to save as much as possible (which is hard with 1 1/2 incomes) and can't wait until after the baby to continue making money lol

I have never heard of such a thing, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. Call your local employment office or better yet go down there so you actually get to talk to a human. The US is one of the only countries ( besides third world countries) that do not pay the mothers during materninty leave, and also we are one of the only ones that only give 6 weeks, some countries give as much as 6 months. I hope you can have something. Good luck

If you are working, you get disability from the state for maternity leave. I tried searching your state's website for information, but didn't have any luck. Sorry! Talk to your employer about it, or if you have a friend who has a job with benefits and an HR department, ask them to find out for you what the state benefits are.

Its disability. Your doctor will have to fill out some forms that you are "taken out of work", most doctors are willing to help you out with this. Depending on your state, you get paid differently. Out here in California, I will get paid 55% of my regular pay while I am out on disability when I leave work for the babies (twins).

Never heard of it but there is an insurance that you could pay for that you can get disability payments. See links below. I am sure you have heard the commercials.

No sorry. I was told no, when my doctor put me on bed rest with my last pregnancy. I went to the unemployment office and they told me I have to be able to work. Mississippi

I think it would depend on your state.

Also, if your doctor says you have to go on bed rest, that also would be a determining factor. But unemployment varies state to state, so you'd have to say what state you're in to get a applicable answer.

You cannot get unemployment for pregnancy, unless there are major complications.
