I just found out my company is being bought from another company. I already worked for the purchasing company. The problem is that the purchasing company does not like me. I am good at my job. Can the new company fire me when they take over? I live in MA

i'm almost completely certain the company buying the company you work for has no obligation to retain any of your company's employees unless the purchase agreement specifically states otherwise. you will not be fired as part of the takeover, however, you may be downsized or restructured out of your position. go to your local job service with any questions regarding this issue. they will have all the answers you need and will be able to help you find new employment if it becomes necessary.

who in the new company does not like you? are they powerful enough to get rid of you?

if they get rid of you only you have a right to be suspicious if a lot of ppl are laid off it could just being re-organisation and it's doubtful you would have a case

the best thing to do is sit tight and see what happens. the new company might want to assess ppl and see who should go - as you say you're good at your job you may not have anything to worry about

in the meantime it does no harm to put your CV on the job market and see what else is out there

good luck xx

there is a possibility the company buying out where you work right now may lay you off if they want to cut down the amount of employees they have, otherwise i doubt they would fire you. i would try and stay positive, and maybe talk to you boss about your concerns.

They can. But surely a whole company doesn't dislike you. If you end up with a boss you've already tangled with at a prior job, that could be a problem.

Unfortunately, a company can fire you for any reason at any time as long as it is not because of your race, sex, religion, national origin....

There is a strong chance that you will be laid off once the Merger fully kicks in and they reorganize the departments to increase efficency and profits.

Unless you have an employment contract, they can fire you, with or without cause, at any time. You should start posting your resume now. good luck.

If they fire you then you can sue for wrongful termination and sit on your butt all day. Or you can file for unemployment and you can still sit on your butt. Either way the company has to pay you.

They won't fire you. They'll lay you off based on restructuring or something like that. Doesn't matter where you are.
