all should get serious consideration. Aside from Dirk and Steve look at what those other players have done for their teams. Those players have been tremendously valuable to their teams. All these teams are in the playoffs because of those players. But you have to consider the fact that Dallas and Phoenix are Championship Contenders, not just playoff contenders and that's because of Steve and Dirk. Yes Dallas and Phoenix are both Playoff teams without them, but they are not Championship teams without them...that's why they lead the MVP race. I'd go with Dirk this time.

To R_Lodemeier: Look at last season? The Suns were eliminated by Dallas in the Conference Championship. Sure they went 7 games against the Lakers and Clippers but one of them had to lose. Why don't you look at the season before. Dallas lost to Phoenix. The fact that Phoenix played the Western Conference Championship Game says they were Championship Contenders, not just a Playoff Team. Are you trying to say the Spurs are not a Championship Contender because they didn't even get as far as Phoenix?

Dirk and Steve are the only two frontrunners. Steve Nash should win the MVP title for a third straight year for several reasons:

1. The Suns were 2-4 without him, and those four losses included some ugly ones to bad teams like Atlanta and Seattle. Dallas is 3-0 in games in which Nowitzki did not play.

2. Nash's statistics are the best of his career. FG%, 3 point percentage, points, assists.... He won MVP the past two times around, and this year he's playing even better. He still might be the first player to ever post a 50-50-90 season averages for FG%, FT%, and 3 point %.

3. The Suns still have the 2nd best record in the NBA, and have dealt with more chemistry and injury issues than the Mavericks (reintegrating Amare, injuries at times to Nash, Marion, Kurt Thomas, Raja Bell, and Boris Diaw)

4. The past two times the Suns and Mavs have played the Suns have won, including an instant classic double overtime win in which Nash carried the team on his shoulders for the last 57 seconds.

Dirk is certainly deserving, but Nash is better than ever, and as a 6-3 point guard the degree of difficulty of what he has accomplished is remarkable.

I think that the most deserving player for the award would be Chris Bosh. This guy is the Raptors. He puts up just as much stats as Dirk and he is doing it when the second and thrid best players on the team are T.J. Ford and a decent at best rookie. The Raptor are in 3rd place in the east with only one great player, Chrish Bosh. I know that everyone wants to say that Nash is the MVP, HE IS NOT A MVP. He is lucky to have gotten the MVP last year. Nash can win regular seasons games with the Suns, but the guy cant take them any farther then they have already gotten. If anyone from the Suns deserves the MVP, it should be Amare. Without him, the SUns are no more than a jump shooting team that will always get outted in the playoffs. With Amare healthy, they have a inner threat that might make the difference between the SUns passing the Spurs. Dirk also is another name floating around. That guy is definately an MVP canidate. he has done great with injuries all year and is the best player on the team with the best record in the NBA. Sadly, Bosh is not in the voting, so I would have to say that hands down Dirk gets it. Hands down he is the reason his team got the Finals last year, and he is the number one reason Dallas has the best record in the NBA( not the only reason though). So I say out of the people that actually have a chance to get it, it will be Dirk.

BUT I WILL NOT BUDGE WHEN I SAY THAT BOSH IS THE MOST DESERVING AND I DONT EVEN LIKE TORONTO.

Oh yeah, the Suns with Nash are still only a playoff team, but Dallas with Dirk are a finals team. If ya dont beleive me, look at last season.

To all you people who think Nowitzki or Nash should get it. Check out their teammates and then decide how they would fare. Without Nash, Phoenix would still have Stoudemire, Barbosa, and Marion. The Matrix and Amare are legit All-Stars even without Nash. Barbosa would still be effective without Nash too. Without Nowitzki, the Mavs would still have Terry, Howard, and Stackhouse. Don't tell me that these three guys are not good NBA players. They are. Nowtizki does garner a lot of attention, but even without Nowitzki, I still say the Mavs make the playoffs. Even Dampier and Diop know their roles, and because of that, the Mavs are a good team overall. Same goes to the Suns. The Mavs have proven they can win without Dirk. The Suns have not been as fortunate without Nash. But still, look at the whole team and you will find legit NBA players that can score and defend. On the other hand, if you look at the Lakers or the Cavs, LBJ and Kobe have no help whatsoever. How can you play with guys like Smush Parker, Kwame Brown, Brian Cook, and Sasha Vujacic? And if you think Lamar is a legit #2 option, think otherwise. He's a playmaker, not a scorer, and he's too inconsistent. Same goes with Lebron. Look at his supporting cast that consists of Eric Snow, Drew Gooden, Zydrunas Illgauskaus, Daniel Gibson, and Anderson Varejao. The list goes on and on. Don't tell me Hughes is his sidekick because he's always injured and only had one good year with Washington. Otherwise, he hasn't proven anything. If you think Gooden and Zydrunas hold down the fort in the middle, think again. They're too inconsistent and Big Z plays more like a guard. All European players are sissies, and that includes Dirk Nowitzki. I'm not trying to hate on Dirk or Nash. I just think that an MVP should rightfully go to what it stands for. The most valuable player. The team's record shouldn't be that significant in making the decision (it helps) because you have to factor in other decisions. Ultimately, my pick would either go to Kobe or Lebron. Sorry Nash and Nowitzki fans, but those two are deserving of the award more. I read earlier posts saying that Bosh deserves the award. His cast is not all that great either with Nesterovic, Graham, Parker, and Ford. That is a good point and very interesting as well. But for now, I'd have to say either Kobe or Lebron.

It's a two man race between Nowitzki and Nash. I'm going with Nowitzki for a few reasons:

1) His team has a better record.
2) Nash has won two straight MVP's. I'm sure some of the voters want to spread the wealth.
3) Nowitzki is relatively young, but how many more chances will he have in the future? You have Kobe, Lebron and D-Wade who will be frontrunners next season.
4) Nash won't make a big deal if Nowitzki wins, because he has two awards already.

I'd give it to Steve Nash. My second choice would be Dirk Nowiski.

Anyone remember when the Mavericks began 0-4 and the Suns began 1-5? I do. That's why the league MVP (and coach of the year) should come from one of those two teams!!

I believe it is Steve Nash because in Clutch situations He steps up. Dirk always misses a Free Throw or a big shot at the end of games. As much as I would like Kobe to win the MVP he plays for a Team that is just over .500. Kobe is the best player but Steve Nash in the MVP for this year.

Nowitzki... not because he is my favorite player... but because he has proved himself this season... he has made everyone on his team better with him... Steve Nash can't do that... Steve Nash has just changed the tempo for the suns... they play only offense... which dallas used to play when steve nash was there... if you know your history correctly. No doubt steve nash is good, but defense wins championships... and Nowitzki has improved each year on his defense, and made players on his team likeable all stars for 2008... for example "josh howard"...Nowitzki has made the players that good... that they can play without him and won't suffer as much... without steve nash...nothing can be done.

as with the guy above me......you're just going to get biased fans saying their favorite player or best guy from their favorite team

i'd love to go Nash again......but i think they'd be less hurt by his not-playing than the Cavs would be without Lebron

Most Valuable To the Team.......the Cavs would be terrible without James
The Mavs would be ok without Dirk
The Suns would be ok without Nash

How about, as a sleeper, Chris Bosh
