Only the Queen has a regular role in government: meeting with the privy council, advising the prime minister, approving laws passed and appointments of ministers and lords, signing orders-in-council and agreeing to call elections. However, she does not have any decision-making power anymore. There is something called the Council of State which includes other royals and acts in her absence, but I don't know much about it.

Prince Charles writes to ministers on matters which concern him but this is his personal choice - he does not have to and some suspect the ministers would prefer he did not. Once he becomes king he won't be able to lobby them anymore.

Not really, the Queen is the head of state and signs bills voted by Parliament which then become Acts of Parliament.

In theory she invites the leader of the largest party to become her prime minister. But she has very little actual power.

However she has tremendous influence. Quite often there are quotes in the press from "Buckingham Palace", which is a euphemism for the Queen.

Almost nothing. The Queen has a ceremonial role and signs acts of parliament so they become law. The rest of them are a waste of time and money. One day democracy will arrive and Britain will have an elected head of state.

Not a lot. Their power has basically been eroded, and now parliament has all the power. When the Queen signs acts of parliament so they become law, it is just ceremony. She has to.

They are mainly there for
a) tradition
b) tourism
c) ceremony
d) and cynics would say that they drain our tax money too.

I think they have a little bit to do, but not much. The Prime Minister pretty much takes care of the country.
