Man, not to terrorize you but scorpions are everywhere in AZ. They come out at night. I stopped wearing flip flops after the kids brought in a jar full of scorpions.
I never had any problem with them. They can sting, but they won't kill you.
Maybe Prescott has less than normal, but I doubt it.
What surprised me most was the fact ducks are a scorpion's worst enemy. Makes sense, ducks aren't natural to AZ.

Scorpions are all over Arizona.
Newer developments tend to have more scorpions though because they are so new.
Houses that have been around a lot longer (10+ years) tend to have less scorpions because the land wasn't ripped out from under them like the newer developments. Also, old houses tend to have been serviced by pest control.
I have seen several scorpions in my home in Glendale, AZ. My father and my brother were both stung; my dad almost died from it. Turns out he has a severe reaction to being stung. His throat swelled up and he was having trouble breathing. Now he carries an Epi Pen every where he goes.
Any time you dig up land to build houses and buildings there is always going to be some kind of pest problem. Northern Arizona, like Flagstaff and Payson, seem to have no scorpions (that I have seen anyway) since they are in the forest. Maybe you should look around that area. Phoenix and the surrounding cities are all desert, a scorpions home.
Good luck!

Scorpions can be anywhere, but in the bigger cities, there are less of them. I have lived 30 years in Phoenix and Glendale ( a suburb of Phoenix) and never seen one or had one in my house or had a neighbor say they had them. Now I have lived almost 10 years in a semi-rural desert area outside Tucson and again have never seen one. My neighbor's kid "thought" they saw one at night one time, but were not sure. I do understand that in Mesa (another suburb of Phoenix) they are pretty common.
I would call a pest control company and see if where you are planning on buying has a lot of them or not. The more grassy areas you buy in (ie more city, less desert), less chance of finding them.
For example, I live near the desert, so snakes are sometimes a problem (outside, not in the house) and in certain parts of Phoenix, black widow spiders are common. Again, mainly outside, never found one inside in my life. And as I have said, I have lived in Arizona for over 35 years. I have also travelled it extensively. In all that time, I have seen a rattlesnake 4 times, scorpion never, black widow spiders--sometimes near a wooden patio at my mom's house and in a cool dark area outside my uncle's house. Black widows bite, but don't kill.
Except for the snakes, a good exterminator will take care of everything else if you do have them. I believe the area in Mesa that had all the scorpions was because they built a subdivision in an area where there had been a huge nest of them and when they disturbed the nest, they went inside the houses. If you are buying a house in Arizona, that type of thing needs to be disclosed before you make any offer. Also, a reputable realtor would steer you clear of any area where they are prevalent if you tell them of your wife's fear.
Please don't let scorpions deter you from coming to Arizona. Its a lovely state with all kinds of vacation possibilities, wild west history, and gorgeous natural beauty. Also because of all the mountains, you can escape the heat in Tucson and Phoenix by just heading a few hours north to Payson, Prescott, Flagstaff.
And waking up to sunshine almost every day of the year is wonderful! Come vacation here first, ask questions about the areas and enjoy!

Scorpions will only invade your space looking for food. Hire a pest control and spray. Arizona is a beautiful state. Also take a look at the link I provided for you on Scorpions In AZ.

I've never had a problem with them, but have seen them quite a bit. Northern Arizona is your best bet on lower scorpion populations.
