1. False, two 45 degree angles would leave a 90 degree angle thus forming a right angle not an obtuse.

2. True, the smallest side will always be accross from the smallest angle in this case AB is accross from angle C which is the smallest angle.

The shortest segment will be opposite the smallest angle. Draw your triangle, labeling each vertex and the associated angle. Then see which side is opposite the smallest angle.
