I recommend vaseline. Its an old fashion secret that is both innexpensive and effective. If your lips still get chapped, then you might need to see a doctor about that.
.... but chapstick (esp. carmex) is great!

Carmex has salicylic acid which promotes exfoliation and oil to moisturize so when you stop using it your skin is thinner & prone to flaking.

Stop using Carmex & any products w/ mint or menthol. Mint, menthol, etc. provide a tingling, cooling sensation but can also irritate sensitive skin.

Instead use any of these:
1) plain Vaseline
2) Aquaphor Healing Ointment (sinks in really well)
3) Neosporin Lip Balm
4) Kiehl's Lip Balm #1
5) Tarte's new lip balm - one side has a sugar exfoliater & the other a vanilla balm

Use a wet toothbrush at night to gently remove any flakes and apply balm before going to bed.

I'm like you, I need my chap stick. I always have it in my pocket; I never leave with out it. A way to slow it down is to use chap stick, keep it in your pocket at all times. When you get used to it you start to not use it at times. It happened to me; now I only use it if i have to. Try it, it works.

Use a moisture prescription rated lip gloss. Oh, and do not get the color of the lip gloss darker than your inner lip. It'll look freaky. Looking to answer more, Allie A.K.A. Surf's up dudes!

Yes, use a product with vitamin A & E
Most lip products have a derivative of alcohol in it which causes you to become addicted it dries you out and you keep using it.

Cortisone can help chapped lips. I use it when mine are sore.
