Technically, the wife of the heir to the throne would be the highest woman in order of precedence (unless the monarch is a woman), however, HM the Queen has decreed that those of Royal birth outrank HRH the Duchess of Cornwall.

Despite the fact her preferred title is Duchess she is actually Princess of Wales but chooses not to use that title as it is still associated with Diana.

I believe if Camilla attends an event with her husband that the Queen and the Princess Royal are also attending then she walk with her husband and then take precedence over the Princess Royal as her husband will always take precedence over his sister.

I am going to answer the mistake in the question asked about Camilla or Princess Royal. Camilla is a royal princess and as the wife of the Prince of Wales is really the Princess of Wales. To pacify the Brits who would raise holy hell over such a thing another of Prince Charles titles was picked. But when Charles becomes king, she will be Queen Camilla. I'm sure no one in the UK will like this.

She would, however, take precedence over the Princess Royal as wife of the Prince of Wales on all official occasions, as did the late Diana Princess of Wales while still married.

I'm here, Gr8danelady, but I'm not sure. According to my 1996 Dod's Parliamentary Companion, Diana was fifth in the table of precedence (for men *and* women) and Anne was ninth. Anyone with a newer edition can check this for sure, as I'd trust it more than wikipedia. People should remember that while Camilla is commonly called Duchess of Cornwall, in law she remains Princess of Wales, but in the absence of concrete proof to the contrary, I can't dispute what Jeremy says.

That's an interesting one. I would think Camilla would take precedence as the wife of the Prince of Wales. However, the Princess Royal far outranks her.

Where's Dunrobin? He would know.

Normally, daughters-in-law of the Queen (i.e., Camilla) rank one spot higher in the order of precedence than do daughters (i.e., the Princess Royal). However, Elizabeth II changed the order so that Camilla is 4th, after herself, Princess Anne (the Princess Royal, her daughter), and Princess Alexandra (her cousin).

You don't give enough information, but I will try to answer you anyway. If we have primogeniture, then the throne belongs to the eldest sister. If she dies without any children, then the youngest Princess is the new Queen. Of course we assume that there are no brothers in the picture (in male preferred primogeniture, every brother is higher in the line than his sisters). If both princesses die without children, then the throne passes to the eldest sibling of the princesses' parent (from which they inherited the throne).,
