Those who prey on people outside of prison, or respected prisoners (the daddies, no less) inside who will terrify the young and quiet inmates in prison?

Question: Why are sex cases in jail seen as the scum of the earth, but first time/young cons are prey to the 'normals'?
Question Details: Remember a friend who used to be a 'prison visitor' in the seventies up to 2002 when she emigrated to Australia. Most of the cons who required her 'services', i.e. a visit once a month to some who had no friends or family - or some who did, but felt more calmer with an independent visitor to talk to, or make their time easier. She had many a story - but the most surreal and sick was 'top dogs' who screamed their hatred of sex offenders, but if they saw a 'fresh face' on the wing who didn't know where on earth he was for most of the time - no matter what his misdemeanour was - the bully (with reputations and 'respect' amongst other cons) would immediately want to spread the poor bastards' legs in the shower room - or wherever it is the rapes take place...

...Most of her 'clients' who talked to her once a month were terrified young (and not so young) men who were too quiet for their own good. Is our admiration for 'hard men' in jail misguided, not knowing what really happens inside?

...as this is a UK question, I realise many may be somewhat shy to air an opinion. indeed some will attack in the form of 'defence', for not everything is black and white!

Last but not least...was just interested in the confused hypocrisy of us Brits. Of course we all hate crimes which involves people - be they young and old who can't look after themselves, but the last time the film 'Scum' was shown on Film 4 it was...like the other times is has been shown since 1979 seen by millions - who I suspect didn't turn off when the most timid of boys was raped by three fellow inmates/

Crazymen - it's true 'adults' go to prison, but not all who are 18 look it, and no matter what they were up to, be it shoplifting, nicking cars or even the sort of crimes we baulk at are at the mercy of the crazy cons who despite making a name to be feared (by the cons and warders) won't feel any way to 'take the cherry' of petrified new arrival who looks like his current love of his life is a train set!

the ones that get away with it i.e fathers/mothers with their daughters or sons causing the children to keep quiet for years through pure terror.

The ones in prison are bad also as the prisoners are too scared to admit it for fear of being classed as a ******. There is also a big fear of 'grassing' inside prison.

Well, those on the outside that prey on the young are pretty disgusting. Those that are committing an offence in prison are committing a crime as well. But, in prison, there should be the protection against the other inmates which I believe some guards allow to happen. So, I hate to say that one is less of a crime than the other.

If anything, it should be the state for allowing such to go on in prisons. In private homes, we hope, there isn't video cameras and guards watching the every move, but in prison...

Sexual assault on anyone is an insult to civilised society. There is no excuse for it anywhere. If this goes on in our prisons then hopefully one of the cons will have the guts to pursue it through the courts. Which should compel the prison service to take its duty of care seriously. I know they will say it is a small price to pay to keep the prisons quiet, but i believe the price is far to high and the problem needs addressing urgently. If what your friend says is true. No i'm not a liberal politically right wing. That means the rule of law applies to one and all not just to some.

Who is it that says we have 'Admiration' for the hard men in jail...?

How can you compare the difference in sex crimes committed between those inside and those outside ~ as if one crime is worse than another!

Any crime is subjective, based on the 'the hurt / damage done' to the victim.

My belief as a youngster was that if you go to jail, then you are 'Under Arrest.' And whist in 'custody' the Police, Prison Warders & Home Office are the people 'Responsible' for your welfare.

Should anything 'happen' to you, then it is they who hold the responsibility or your health and safety and are accountable for it ~ whether or not they perpetrated it (and the perpetrators are the ones who ought to stand trial).

My belief may well be somewhere between naive and misguided over this issue, but I still think it is right ~ as in ones 'Human Right to be protected from injury by criminals.'

The worst sexual offender is the rapist! Regardless of who the victim is! Perhaps though young people who seem to think that serving a prison sentence is a 'piece of cake' and that it's just bad luck that they got caught should be made to watch the film you mention. It might work as a deterrent but if it was as bad as you say it is then, Why do so many reoffend? Why risk facing being raped again! It would certainly keep me on the straight and narrow!

Any sexual devient, by which I mean someone who has sex or performs a sex act on an individual who has or is unable to say no, should be castrated without exception. I have been raped and nothing can ever make you forget it. It is the most horrendous crime and I personally think the death sentence is too bloody good for them. How dare someone presume they can just do that, sick bastards. If I met my rapist now I would laugh at him before I stabbed him through the heart, He would not be allowed to get the last laugh!!

Any sex offence is the worst it could be. To be honest, I think the worst offenders are the law makers who allow such offenders to get away with pathetic sentences in jails where they are kept with three full meals a day and counselling for their crimes, whereas the innocent victims have to put up with the life long emotional and psychological "scars" from the attack, let alone the demeaning scrutiny they get from the minute they report the crime to the police, right down to giving evidence in the trial.

The sexual offenders in prison are just as much at fault as sexual offenders on the outside.

The sexual offender inside are worse in some respects because their victims have nowhere to escape the assaults, they can not call the police like a victim on the outside can.

I conclude that sexual offenders inside prison are particullarly deserving of the title "scum" and they should be killed on sight which is what I would consider doing to them if I ever became such a victim.

I also conclude that the prison authorities in some parts of the world who allow this sort of thing to happen (and in some cases cause it to happen) are also deserving of the title "scum" and they should be put in prison themselves.

Being sentenced to prison is bad enough. I think rape inside is the worse. I know of a man, just a regular guy, who is sitting in prison now. He was going to get his bakes fixed after they didn't pass inspection(directly from the inspection). They failed on him and he ran into another vehicle. He was sent to jail...the child died soon after...he faced some type of murder charge. This is a man, like any ones Dad, Uncle or Brother(40ish). Mows the lawn, goes to work, put your own Relative in this picture...what has he done to deserve being raped? He has to live with being torn from his family and the death of a child for the rest of his life...Not everyone in jail or prison really deserves to be there. Even the non-violent ones who are sent, don't deserve to be raped.

thats a hard question because there are some innocent people in prison getting raped and there are people in prison for a stupid crime like being caught filming a movie in the theatre rooming with a murderer. but then there are the predators outside who prey on little children and the ones that beat the elderly. i think the inside ones are worse though (in my personal opinion) becuase there is no escape, not ever. outside we have the police, parents, neighbours etc... the innocent ones in jail have noone.
