We are in the middle of a war between life and death. Death is all around us. Things conspire to steal life away from us, from bacteria to terrorists...even depression (sabatoged by our own minds and biological processes!). When the universe and this world was created, there was no life...yet we somehow managed to grab a foothold and multiply.

You are free to choose to give up your life to the forces of death, but then you couldn't do anything else...seems to be a waste. Life, then, is a very rare gift, considering everything else in the universe that is not alive and the countless opportunities for you to die.

We exist, because we don't want death to win. Our existence paves the way for future things to exist, continuing and evolving life. The world is much more interesting with life in it.

As for the meaning of life, this theory implies that there's no meaning beyond however you want to live life. There's no right or wrong way to live life (be a pleasure-seeker if you want), though personally helping others (friends, family, the needy here and abroad, animals, environment...you know, hippie stuff) seems to be satisfying for me. Traveling is fun too.

Anyway, it should make you angry that things around you are trying to take your life away. So even if you feel you don't have anything to live for, fight on principle alone...soldier on.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

There is a book called "it is all right." By Isabel M. Hickey.

The answer to your question is found on Pg. 137. In an anonymous piece of writing called "Allegory Why."

In brief, It explains man's inhumanity to man and the reason why it exists in the first place.

It is too long for me to type out and it is not found on the Internet anywhere...

I'm sorry but if you want the secret to the Universe. You are going to have to find it, and read it yourself.

Beware of the many cliches you'll inevitably get from posing such a question, one of which would be 42.

I really don't think there's any galactic blueprint detailing what life is all about; if there was guaranteed IKEA would nick it and base it on some form of coffee table.

Just be happy with what you do.

The Meaning of Life is what YOU make of it. You search for your meaning in your personal journey, and only you can really know what the meaning of like is for you. No one person can define the Meaning of Life for everyone.

The meaning in life is to find meaning!
Everyone has a purpose in this world. Some take time to find it but God put us here to find our reasons. Everyone has their own purpose to find.

Everyone asks the same question.
Everyone wants to know.

But nobody knows, there are just theories.

Perhaps when we die, we will find out.
