I'm thinking paternity rest ? Is it possiable ? a guy at work is going through this situation and ask me this question , I told him I was unsure , but if he had any doubs to ask for a paternity test , I kinda think it's not possiable but I didnt want to tell him that ...My husband has dark brown eyes and I have blue eyes and our child has green eyes , It seems like the brown try to dominate ...any feedback would be apperciated..The baby is around 7 months old so it is very easy to tell the eyes are light , crystal blue , I know in newborns it is very hard to determin the eye color

yes- brown is the more dominant colour but each parent carries 2 genes for eye colour - only 1 from each will get passed to the child so if both parents pass the blue gene on the baby will have blue eyes.

Actually, there are 3 different genes that determine eye color (although the third is not well understood by us scientists). Brown eye color is dominant to blue eye color, which is why both parents in this case show brown eyes. Blue eye color is created by inheriting all blue recessive genes -- green eye color is basically created by inheriting some brown dominant genes and some blue recessive genes in a very specific combination. While it is possible to brown eyed people to create a blue eyed child, the probability is actually less than 50% (even if it were one gene BbXBb will give BB 25% of the time, Bb 50% of the time, and bb 25% of the time so only 1/4 children on average would inherit blue eyes. Because there are more genes involved, the probability is even lower!). Here is a great website to find more information on eye color inheritance -- it even has an eye color predictor!

I don't think your friend should go through the drama of asking for a paternity test on just this alone!

eye color is determined by many genes, it is polygenic, and YES, the baby could've gotten blue from two brown eyed parents.

Edit: It used to be thought that Blue and Brown worked on a simple recessive and dominant system, like pea plant flower color, but we know now that that's not quite so. The reason it is possible is that both parents could've passed on a gene they don't express the phenotype of, but it's not simple dominance and recessive. From your description, the baby's eyes may be blue, which we know two genes for, or gray (blue will go away as the baby ages), which we are stumped about (we know it's not blue) or pale green/hazel, which we know the three genes for, or fawn brown (pale yellow-brown) which we know of 2 genes for, but we think there is a third.

It is possible that one or both parents have a recessive gene for blue eyes. Unless there are other considerations to be made- I'd say a paternity suit is not in order

Each parent has two genes for eye color. If either of thoe genes is for "brown", then you will have brown eyes. But if the other gene is "blue", you can still pass it on to your child. That child would have to get a "blue" gene from both parents in order to have blue eyes.

So it is possible to have brown eyed parents and blue eyed children. I had two brown eyed parents, but my eyes are blue.

It is classic! Brown eyes are dominant. And to this couple the odds for a blue eyed baby is 50%. Unless there have another fact, there is not reason to suspect about his paternity.

YES if you're mother grandmother had that colour eyes and someone in youre partners family had that colour eyes then it happens. In my family we all have brown eyes other than my baby sister who has blue eyes this is because my mothers mother had blue eyes and my fathers father had blue eyes so YES it does happen! :)

it is possible if bothe parents have recessive genes for blue eyes. possibility is one out of four.

BR (dominant brown)
bl (recessive blue)

BRbl x BRbl=
BRBR (brown), BRbl (brown), blBR (brown), blbl (blue)
