To sum it up in a very basic form

Liberals believe in big govt, more taxation, more social liberties, and more economic restrictions.

Conservatives believe in a small govt (or they use too I have my doubts.), strong military, less taxation, family values, economic liberties, and social restrictions.

Libertarians believe in very small govt, much less taxation, with both economic and social liberties.

Conservative and Liberal are polars. One supports slow gradual change, one encourages rapid engineered change.
Libertarianism is the polar opposite of Authoritarianism. It is technically conservative, although it can fall on either right or left depending on whether its all out libertarian or just civil/social libertarian.
