Vista is different and still has a number of bugs. If the free update offer does not run out, I would suggest waiting until around August to upgrade. If the offer runs out, I would wait till a couple weeks before it runs out and then use it. If not, you will have to spend several hundred dollars eventually to upgrade to Vista.

While many people will stay with XP for now, Microsoft will eventually drop support for XP. If you are going to be using the computer for a long period of time, I would suggest that you do upgrade. I have been using Vista for well over a year through the different betas and I do like it, however, I still use Windows XP for a lot of my work because of some software incompatibilities with Vista.

Good luck in your decision and I hope everything works out well if your decided to upgrade to Vista.

Im running Vista right now. It is good but it takes a lot of getting used to. There are still some bugs in it so I would wait a few months before you upgrade.

I would wait until service pack one is released, but if you want to give it a go, I see no problem with doing so. I have built a new system just to play with vista to find out all the bugs, and other issues with it, and for about a month now I have not seen any issues that you can't overcome or deal with. I have Vista home premiem, and Business, and ultimate, and have only seen the one issue of drivers that you have go and get from the manufactors web sites for your hardware if it needs it. Vista will update the drivers for a lot of the hardware out now, but most of them need the drivers from the manufactor. Keep XP for at least a year. At that point they should have a lot of the bugs worked out of vista.

Free? Erm OK. From what I've heard Vista is horrible so I would wait until they have worked the bugs out in about 10 or 20 years or so LOL

do a dual boot- XP on one Partition and Vista on the other. That way you have the best of both worlds. Keep XP to use with any Programs that dont work with Vista. After you can always get rid of XP.

I would get the upgrade CD just so you have it, but I would not upgrade yet. Especially if your computer is not TOP-OF-THE-LINE. Also, Vista still has some bugs to work out. Wait until at least SP1 comes out.
